Assisi, Italy & Triangle, Virginia, USA — As I explore the design and construction methods of the lasting architectural edifice, I am simultaneously drawn to more temporary acts of human intervention on the land. With the works of Andy Goldsworthy, Robert Smithson, and other land artists in mind, I have found myself compelled to create ephemeral, colaborative works in places of special spiritual significance. Atop the Italian mountain moor of Monte Subasio, a cairn was erected at the culmination of a dark uphill journey as a physical record of our visitation and appreciation. In a wooded Virginia creekbed, low water levels inspired a collection and arrangement of the brightest fallen rhododendron leaves onto a trapped pool.
