paper bricks
type 2 brick
One of my first studio projects involved the daunting task of fabricating over 1000 bricks by hand within a 5 day period. Individual members of the group were given absolute freedom of method and material by which to produce the bricks, the only restraint being that the products conform to the standard brick dimension. For my 50 pieces, I explored the capabilities of stacked and glued recycled corrugated cardboard. What began as a exercise in texture and graphic orientation of the layers became a valuable experiment for the most efficient and economic usage of a raw material during mass production. Structural integrity tests were also conducted for each of my three brick configurations.
