giveaway installation, cowgill hall
During the ongoing thesis exhibitions during my 5th year of architecture school, a special kind of public exhibit was proposed: gifts, free to be taken by anyone. It was understood that the purpose of the gifts should be trifold: to give younger students a practical object of design, to promote awareness and engagement of my thesis with the students and faculty, and to find a method of production and distribution that remained relevant to my project. Making 15 working camera obscuras was an obvious choice, and the size and materiality of the cameras were just enough to cause curiosity and spark discussion. (original body design: DIRKON, by Martin Pilný, Mirek Kolár, and Richard Vyškovský in 1979)
